Safety Classes in Schools

Learn to BE SAFE with Emmy™

Research suggests that kids who are educated about the dangers of abuse are twice as likely to enjoy a childhood free from harm.

We’ve developed a program called Learn to BE SAFE with Emmy and we’ve been teaching this program to kids in schools since early 2009.

How we help

BE SAFE is a series of five one-hour classes which teach Grade 1 kids how to protect themselves from abuse. The program was created by experienced ACT for Kids staff including a psychologist, a speech pathologist and early education teachers.

The program uses early learning principles so kids can learn how to:

  • tell between ‘ok’ and ‘not ok’ situations
  • understand who is and isn’t allowed in their personal space
  • recognise early warning signs that something is wrong
  • differentiate between private and public body parts
  • identify trusted people who they can talk to about abuse
